Many new staff members have joined Catholic Central this year, including a new Spanish teacher. Ms. Crampton is excited to start her new journey at Catholic Central and connect with students. 

Before Ms. Crampton switched to CC, she used to work at Bethany Christian Services. “I was a teacher and taught math, science, social studies, and reading Spanish and English too,”  Crampton said. She then explained that the government funding that they had ran out, so they decided not to give funding for the program which then got shut down. Some people were lucky because they were in social work so they could transfer to other Bethany branches, but unfortunately this was the only place Crampton was able to work as a teacher. 

She was excited to see that Catholic Central had an opening for a Spanish teacher because she is Catholic. She has worked as a Spanish teacher in public schools for 6 years and a total of 15 years as a teacher.

Her favorite thing about being a Spanish teacher is being able to connect with the Latina culture. She said, “Although I’m not Latina, I love everything about the culture.” She said that she’s traveled to Mexico 4 or 5 times, Costa Rica twice and studied at a university in Spain.

Crampton said, “ I started learning Spanish in elementary/middle school because my older brothers would speak it to each other. It would make me upset because I thought they were talking bad about me. Turns out it was the case.”  She learned Spanish by taking her sister’s books to learn Spanish while she was at school. Crampton said, “When she came back, she would tell me a few words in English and I would translate it to Spanish.”

When Ms. Crampton isn’t working, she loves doing many things. “I love dogs. I have two of my own. Yoshi is a husky and Simon is a beagle mix. My favorite thing is to walk them.” She also takes care of other people’s pets. Crampton also said, “I love hanging out with friends and going out to eat. I like watching football and listening to music.” 

Before coming to Catholic Central, Crampton said that she didn’t know what to expect. “I love that we pray before each class,” she said. She also said that what she likes about the school is the diversity.  “My biggest goal is to build a relationship with my students, by memorizing their names, and connecting with them individually”, Crampton said.
