Winter time is the best time to see the inside of a gym. It’s even better when there’s a couple mats rolled out on the courts with the Cougar Competitive Cheer Team stunting, tumbling and cheering to the best of their abilities and having an all around great time.
When it comes to competitive cheer, its about trust, teamwork and repetition. Each routine is precise and structured from tumbling, dance routines to even lifters. Each set has to be perfectly timed and perfected with explosiveness, power and control.
What separates competitive cheer is the bond and insane amount of trust that each and every person has in one another. When it comes to certain rounds, the trust ranges from relying on yourself and the person next to you lands an eight count on time, to a flyer trusting their base to hold and catch them out of the air. When talking to some of the cheerleaders, they all resemble the same respect and trust in one another and have truly grown a bond with each other over the time they have been together.
The girls placed second at their first competition at Wyoming. If you see a competitive cheerleader in the halls, tell them congrats.
For this week’s competition, the Cougars will be at FHC on Wednesday and at Rockford High school on Thursday. Good Luck to the Cougar Cheer team!
