All Hallows Eve, now known as Halloween, is a widespread holiday filled with horror, candy and fun tricks to play on your friends. Younger children dress up and walk door to door hoping for a Halloween treat as adults decorate the house and try to put a little fear into the night. The question is: what are teenagers doing on Halloween night? To find out, The Blue & White sent out a survey to CC students.
Despite many people thinking high school is too old to be trick or treating, 16.1 per cent of the students who responded to the survey went out for some candy and fun costumes. That number may have been more; however, the school’s football team was playing their first playoff game Halloween night as well. 39.6 per cent of the students cheered on our team while they crushed Kelloggsville 45-16. The other 38.9 per cent of students planned a get together with friends to enjoy the holiday with some good company.
For the first time in 11 years, Halloween was on a Friday ,meaning the Halloween festivities could last all weekend! Hallo-weekend was a big hit for the Cougars: 50.3 per cent of students took part in weekend long celebrations and get togethers to enjoy their holiday. With All Saints and All Souls Day being this weekend as well, 49.7 per cent of students decided that Friday was enough to celebrate Halloween and give the other holidays their shine.
CC students love to be in a festive mood with 37.8 per cent of students planning to dress up at school for Halloween. 42.6 per cent of students were undecided about whether they would dress up at school or not, and only 19.6 per cent of students weren’t dressing up at school at all.
Many are wondering what costumes the students here at CC were wearing? There were some rather funny responses such as “myself” and “public school kid.” The most common response was “vampire,” “sailor/pirate” and “prisoner/robber.” There were also fun group costume ideas such as “Marv and Harry” (from Home Alone) and an “80s Barbie trio.”
Overall, Halloween here at CC was a fun and festive occasion with both teachers and students dressing up to celebrate All Hallows Eve.
