Hitting New Notes With New Choir Teacher, Mr. Malone

Music and inspiration goes hand-in-hand with our new choir teacher Mr. Jordan Malone. While getting to know Malone’s past and present, there is a clear theme in his life: music.

Malone started music in the fifth grade when his grandma “sort of forced him at first.” He hated playing music at first and grew to love it. Malone then went on to study music education and liturgical music, voice, organ, piano and conducting at Grand Rapids Community College and Aquinas College.

Malone says his favorite part of being a teacher is “definitely working with the students. They are hilarious, hardworking, dedicated, just all the reasons I wanted to go into teaching.” He loves giving back to our community, the same way Catholic Central gave to him when he graduated in 2016.

When asking what else Malone wants our community to know about him, he gives advice instead: “Everyone has the capacity to be musical.” Malone explains how he started with no musical experience, and was trained to be amazing at music and loves it. He also explains, “music is so integral in our lives and society and if we didn’t have it there would be a huge void, so I just encourage everybody to explore music.” Getting to know Malone was intriguing and inspiring.
