As the new school year starts up, the staircases are jam packed with student chatter about who might win the House cup, favorite teachers, and parts of school we love (and love to hate). We asked our Seniors and Freshman what they thought, and the results are in.
In an unexpected twist, both classes believe that Kolbe house, who hasn’t won yet, can pull off a big win for the House Cup! 33% of these students are quite optimistic about this year being Kolbe’s year.
Andrew Kileen (‘26), a Kolbe house representative, has said that he is “most excited for seeing Kolbe win the House cup” in his senior year.
The House cup isn’t where the similarities stop. Both classes have chosen an English teacher as a class favorite. The Seniors voted on Miss Oman while the Freshman have been loving Mrs. Kozminski. In a day and age where reading is “no fun,” our school seems to be enjoying these wonderful teachers that bring light to the world outside of technology.
The Seniors are looking ahead to this year’s events. Diane Diesen (‘26) added that “school dances and senior privileges,” like Senior skip day and not having to take as many spring exams, are on our senior’s bucket lists.
However, the Freshman have high hopes for the doors that open in the sports world as a high school athlete. Gavin Aguilar (‘29) is looking forward to “being able to run and compete in track” this year.
On a different note, many Seniors, including Maksym Philips (‘26), are irritated with “busy work.” These seniors are already catching a high fever of senioritis, while the Freshman still have a long way to go.
However, Rosemary Menno (’29) has a different problem; her dad seems to be everywhere. Dr. Menno, a beloved theology teacher, has welcomed his daughter to CC! This seems like a dream until you can never get away from your dad.
Overall, these classes seem to be divided by year but similar in spirit. We have high hopes for a strong school year filled with competitive House competition, good leadership from the Seniors, and fresh energy from our freshmen. Maybe this year we will see Kolbe on top!
